The recent oil crisis has shaken our oil dependent society so much that people have been clamoring for every conceivable way to generate electricity and fuel for our future. In cities, where land is a premium, most space is already maximized leaning the roof which can be quite large if you’re talking about commercial spaces such as malls and shopping centers. Solar power has become more and more accessible to most people and can be installed easily onto existing roofs, anywhere there is wasted space that isn’t used for any other purpose. Some even install them on their wide open walls where there are no windows, adding power generation capacity.
They can be used for just about any appliance that uses DC or AC giving free energy for use. AC requirements require more hardware in the form of inverters that turns the DC energy you store into deep cycle/high efficiency storage batteries into the alternating current(AC) you need for your appliances.
